We have dozens of "members" who have never attended a meeting or a class at our center. Why are they members? Does it look good on a resume? I do not mind that we have members who never attend meetings, but I would love if they would support the work we do and the venue we offer. When a member attends meetings, they are demonstrating support. They spend the time and make the effort to show that there is a reason for this place to exist. (By the way, the IRS loves when there is a good reason for a non-profit organization to exist!) But, other than costing the center $75 every six months to be on Meetup, how do non-participating members show their support? Swelling our numbers so as to look good on Meetup is of very little value. So, should we require a monthly membership fee (tax-deductable) from members who wish to simply support the venue in the event they find themselves able to attend? Oh, and if you attend even one meeting, your fee for the next month can be waived!
