Spiritual Movie Night - The Golden Compass

The eagerly-awaited, $180 million fantasy epic "The Golden Compass" starring Nicole Kidman opened today, December 7th. Robert Ebert's review of the movie (he rated it four stars out of four) begins as follows:

"The Golden Compass" is a darker, deeper fantasy epic than the "Rings" trilogy, "The Chronicles of Narnia" or the "Potter" films. It springs from the same British world of quasi-philosophical magic, but creates more complex villains and poses more intriguing questions. As a visual experience, it is superb. As an escapist fantasy, it is challenging. Teenagers may be absorbed and younger children may be captivated; some kids in between may be a little conflicted, because its implications are murky.

We will meet at the AMC Empire 25 Theatre in the front lobby, just inside the front doors. I'll be holding up a sign that says MEETUP. We'll meet at 6:30pm, and at 6:45 pm we'll go upstairs to take our seats for the 7:00pm showing. Please meet us in the lobby by 6:45pm at the latest, or you'll miss us.

After the movie, we'll walk a block north to the Hard Rock Cafe (on Broadway and 43rd) for drinks and discussion. Dinner is also available at the Hard Rock.
